Digital multimeters
Whether you troubleshoot and maintain electrical distribution, HVAC, or rotating equipment you probably use a digital multimeter regularly. You may also use an infrared camera, or thermal camera to help you troubleshoot.
The problem: Carrying two separate tools or having to go back to the shop to grab the thermal camera. Adding even more tools to a heavy tool bag or taking time away from the work to be done.
The solution: A thermal multimeter, or thermal dmm, is both a digital multimeter and a thermal camera in one. And it’s no bigger than your usual multimeter.
The Fluke 279 FC Thermal Multimeter
The Fluke 279 FC Thermal Multimeter works like the multimeters you’re used to, but with an added, integrated thermal camera. It works for just about any electrical application. Quickly locate a problem with the thermal camera function and then turn the dial to make your standard electrical measurements.
To use it, simply turn the dial to the “IR camera” setting and scan the potential problem area. When you find a hot or cold spot, save the image, and note the location. Set the dial to the test you want and use it like a normal digital multimeter. Connect your test leads and make your measurements.
Remember to follow all appropriate safety guidelines and wear the appropriate PPE for the environment before testing in a live electrical environment.
The 279 FC thermal multimeter includes:
- 15 measurements, like AC/DC voltage up to 1000 V, AC current, continuity, resistance, diode test, capacitance, and frequency.
- Built-in thermal imager with 80 x 60 resolution and a temperature range of -10°C to 200°C (14°F to 392°F).
- 3.5 inch (8.9 cm) full color LCD screen shows a heat map of thermal scans as well as easy-to-read measurements.
- Integrated iFlex® functionality expands your current measurement capabilities to 2500 A AC. Helps you get accurate measurements in tight, hard to reach spaces and with large conductors. Wirelessly relays measurements to the Fluke Connect® Mobile app.
- Fluke Connect® allows you to stream live measurements. Email or save thermal images to a smartphone to document when repairs are complete.
- 80 x 60 resolution
- 36° field of view
- 10-hour rechargeable battery that allows you to work a full shift without recharging or replacing batteries.
