In 2004 we diversified into Electrical switchgear and in wood poles both for road construction and later power transmission poles including accessories for the pole industry.
We continued throughout 2005 and secured several contracts with among others, Crescent construction, Cabro East Africa, Timsales and Muringa holdings. In 2006 we were prequalified as KPLC line construction contractors for up to 66KV. We began with small labour and transport contracts in and around Nairobi before expanding to Western, Nyanza, East and Central Kenya. We now have four full time teams and all the toolsrequired in the line construction industry. We haveinstalled several secondary distribution transformers in both11Kv and 33Kv networks within KPLC and also inthe private sector e.g. Kibos Sugar and Allied industrywhere we have built their perimeter security lighting and a four kilometer HT network with two 315kva substations.
In February 2008 we successfully completed a 3.4km 33Kv line for REA which included two transformers andover 1.5km of LV lines in Siaya district.In total we have constructed over 30km of MV and over50km of LV power distribution lines in all over thecountry.In 2009 we embarked on a project entailing a changeover of power billing system from post paid to pre-paid meters with KPLC (the country’s sole power distribution utility)- the project is on going countrywide and is aimed at an estimated 5 million customers. Some of the equipment we can supply to major power companies in Kenya include: – High Voltage, High Current, High power test systems and components; Medium and low voltage switches and switch disconnectors, distribution type switch gears and many others The Electrical and construction division has continued to carry out contracts with Kenya Power & Lighting, Rural Electrification Authority, Sugar industry and other companies.
